Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King or Louis the Great was King of France from 14 May 1643 until his death in 1715. His reign of 72 years and 110 days is the longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country in history.
At the age of 15 he was married to Marie Antoinette who was 14 at the time. They were married at the Palace of Versailles to seal a strategic peace alliance between France & Austria.
He gave himself the name of the Sun King as he saw France as a kingdom that revolved around him, just like the planets revolved around the sun.
