If you need to put together a Hippie costume on a budget, grab an old ugly patterned tie to use as a headband and purchase a peace sign. Raid your wardrobe for anything a bit “herbal looking” think cheesecloth, tie dye, crochet, layered skirts, fringes, wooden beads and Tree of Life style clothing. You could grab an old pair of jeans and add in some triangles of fabric from the knee down to form flares. Thrift or go through your old clothes and add some drawn or embroidered peace signs and flowers. If you don’t have anything perfect at home think about hiring or buying just a pair of flares and a peace sign to wear with a top of your own, alternatively just adding a fur trim or fringed vest over your own clothes will definitely achieve the right vibe.

To achieve a disco look steer clear of hippie style florals prints or peace signs. Instead go for swirl, paisley, plain, shiny or sequin fabrics. Flares, wide collared shirts with several buttons undone, sequin dresses, halter or one shoulder tops, mini dresses or a slinky maxi dress will all do the job with the appropriate accessories. Add some gold chains for men or for ladies a wide sequin scarf tied over the top of your head with long tails hanging down your chest on one side and some big hoop earrings.
